Beware of “Recycle for Charity” Schemes

Posted by Patrick Hebert August - 17 - 2009 - Monday ADD COMMENTS

wolf-sheep2CellCycle.ca is not a charity.

My family and I have noble intentions for our cell phone recycling project but we are not a not-for-profit enterprise.  Like many people, we’re trying to make a living by doing something good for our community and our planet. Some other cell phone recycling initiatives, however, even go so far as to use “charity” or “charitable” in their name and imply charitable status.

Don’t be fooled!

Charities are registered legal entities that must live up to certain conditions under the law.  It is one thing for an organization to raise money for a charity and donate a portion of proceeds, but some companies in the recycling business imply that all money raised goes to charity.

We’ve begun to offer charitable fundraising as an alternative to our standard tree-planting commitment.  What distinguishes us from companies that offer recycling for charity is that we believe in being up front and ethical about how much money a charity can expect to raise, we believe in paying charities for each cell phone they collect for us regardless of age or condition, and we believe in providing ethical downstream information about where collected phones ultimately end up for processing or reuse.

Tech lovers and mobile gadget geeks can now realize their dreams of a magical phone that blows away the boredom of using smartphones. Enter HTC’s 3rd iteration into its Android mobile phone – the HTC Hero. It’s the smartphone hero everyone is waiting for – exactly the kind that can rescue the bored masses from using any other smart phone.
Starting with its design, the HTC Hero stands above its Dream and Magic predecessors with a sleeker more sexy touch screen form. It is the first mobile smartphone featuring HTC Sense, packing a host of powerful features and application over previous Android-based mobile phones. Unique features

One remarkably noticeable feature is its slim form using Teflon coating that makes it stand out in a pack of smartphones with similar form factors. The HTC Hero uses a trackball for controlling much of the functions.

It’s the first HTC smartphone to offer Sense – the company’s customization initiative of the Android OS that enables stunning UI visuals, navigation and impressive application features. The feature allows HTC Hero owners a new level of handset personalization well above any in the smartphone market. Sense enables profile settings that are unique in the industry, allowing users to really define their mobiles phones uniquely “their phone.”

It likewise features support for Flash animation and videos, as well as multi-touch internet browsing. Managing the usual phone information such as contacts takes the boredom from the typical controls and becomes an intuitive console seamlessly integrating text messaging, email, calls, social networking and other functions. Hero’s mp3 playing experience is an immense improvement over that from your typical mobile players with the use of widgets right from the home screen. Moreover, HTC support the audio industry standards with the use of 3.5mm audio jacks, unlike other leading mobile phones using proprietary termination that keeps users away from high fidelity earphones. Standard features

Reading the spec sheet on the HTC Hero at first glance does really impress as much of the technical features are at par with those of high end smartphones. But high end it still is. You get a large display form factor using capacitive touch screen with HVGA resolution similar to what’s out there. No physical keyboard but the onscreen one is among the most response in the market, using haptics to let you know as if you’re actually typing.

Quad band/GSM/GPRS/EDGE comes in standard. The 5-megapixel camera has auto focus. Its multimedia function supports virtually all the audio and video codecs known to man. Battery life is as good as any. Bottom-line, the HTC Hero leverages the features that have made smartphones popular. And with HTC’s innovative touch, it brings smartphones to a new level of functionality and appeal.

You can find the latest HTC Hero deals on the web at HTC Hero deals. They offer a complete review as well as HTC Hero videos so that you can see whether or not this is the phone for you. Why not pay them a visit today for more information.

CellCycle.ca introduces Ethical Charity Fundraising

Posted by Patrick Hebert August - 2 - 2009 - Sunday ADD COMMENTS

Not everyone sees the need for more trees.  Some people know of other worthwhile initiatives that desperately need funding.

Accepting this fact, we’re proud to introduce fundraising services for any non-profit cause.

Whether you know of a daycare that could use some extra cash for recycling cell phones, a food bank, a community clinic, a zoo, a health promotion agency, relief of poverty, building homes for the less privileged, or any other group, we’re happy to help.

Unlike other cell phone recycling services in Canada, we will pay for EVERY cell phone your organization collects, not just the ones that can be reused.  We’ll even pay for shipping provided that your organization collects a minimum quantity.

In addition, you can rest assured that the non-functional cell phones collected by your organization will not be exported to developing nations as e-waste.  We’re committed to protecting the planet and people, wherever they live.

Contact us today to find out more.
